Saikotei was founded as a traditional Japanese restaurant
Saikotei was founded about 140 years ago as a traditional Japanese restaurant by Kobe Saito, the first owner of the restaurant. It is said that Mr. Saito was a skilled person, and he served as a cook when Emperor Meiji came to Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Since its founding, the restaurant Saikotei has welcomed various celebrities such as the first Prime Minister Ito Hirobumi, political and business figures, and intellectuals for 120 years as "Yamaguchi's Guest House". After the restaurant closed after its long history, it was relocated and restored, and is now used as a place for citizens o exchange.
A large hall where people who have made their names in history gathered
Saikotei has a large hall that is typical of traditional Japanese restaurants. In the 100-tatami-mat size room, there are calligraphy writings of Prime Ministers from Yamaguchi Prefecture, such as Ito Hirobumi and Abe Shinzo, as well as of those who have made their names in history, such as Tanaka Kakuei. It's interesting that each calligraphy shows the individuality of the person.
You can rent this hall as a rental room, and you can use catering service to hold banquets such as year-end parties and alumni reunions. Some people also have a wedding in this hall.
The Kimono Experience
At Yamaguchi City Saikotei, you can experience wearing a kimono. Why don't you wear a kimono and and take pictures in the hall or garden, or walk around the quaint town and spend time in a Japanese atmosphere?
In the summer, Yukatas are available, and slightly unusual costumes of "Bakumatsu Shishi (patriots from the end of the edo period)" as well, so choose your favorite one and take pictures. You can also rent small items and have your hair done (included in the fee).

Let's transform into a samurai with "Armor Experience"
The "Armor Experience" started as a new service in 2020. You can wear a special armor with the Mori family crest. The armor is as heavy as 10 kg, but it seems to be surprisingly easy to move. It looks like it's fun to pose and take pictures with props such as swords!

Let's wear a kimono and go to the Rurikoji Five-storied Tower
Where should I go in a kimono? The recommendation is "Rurikoji Five-storied Tower". It is recommended to take pictures against the background of the beautiful five-storied tower, which is a national treasure and one of the three famous tower in Japan. It's also a good idea to take a walk around the area and take a special picture of yourself. The area around Rurikoji Five-storied Tower is Kozan Park where you can enjoy seasonal scenery such as plum blossoms and cherry blossoms in spring and leaves change color in autumn.
